Like many mothers have said/experienced before me, this pregnancy is worlds different from my first time around with Amelia. As they say, each child is different and therefore each pregnancy. But it still continues to surprise me. Slow on the uptake much?
Differences (so far):
-I had major “morning” sickness for 5-6 weeks this time. I was barely functioning for a while there. Which is not ideal when you’ve got a busy two-year old to entertain. But I can’t imagine what it would be like if I was a surgeon or pilot or something. Seriously. How do people do that?! Last time I just felt slightly hungover for a few weeks.
-I started showing early. Like 3 months before I started showing with Millie. And now people ask if I’m sure I’m not having twins. Um, shut it. Seriously. Why is it okay to talk about how HUGE anyone is, ever?
-Round Ligament Pains are the devil. I never had them before and holy hell they are brutal. I had to start wearing a maternity band/belt (super sexy) and have been seeing a chiropractor and they are SO much better now. Yay!
-Carrying soooo low. Like the baby is camped out below my belly button. Still. I’m like, you can move up any time now!
-I had weird allergies for the first 3ish months. I’d wake up in the middle of the night sneezing and then have a hard time getting back to sleep. I guess this could be unrelated.
-I worked out regularly until the day Millie was born. This time my body is so messed that walking is painful and I can barely get through my yoga DVD. This may be related to the fact that we’ve been away from home/the gym for almost 2 months but still. I need to get back at it! Biking has still been a good workout with my no-gears cruiser and two (1 baby, 1 Millie) kids in front of me.
-I get so tired, so easily. I recently learned how to nap. I never understood how to do it before but now I don’t understand how not to! It’s been easier to lie down for a little while when M is down while we aren’t at home since I have less house-managing to do. So that’s been a nice treat!
-Cravings. With Millie my only real craving was apples. I ate 1-2 a day. This time it’s been all over the board but mostly Mexican food. It always sounds good. Always. Other random ones have occurred but the Mexican food one is unshakable.
-I haven’t read one book or prepared for labor at all. I keep telling myself I have time. And I do. But you know, I should probably get on that.
Anyway, so different!
Oh, and whenever I talk about our baby with Millie, she tells me that she ALSO has a baby growing in her belly. Wouldn’t that be interesting.
